THE YOGA IMPACT CHARITY APPROACH:

The Yoga Impact Charity has been providing inclusive, evidence based trauma informed yoga in the community to thousands of people since 2015. We recognise the powerful impact that the practice of Yoga can have on psychological and physical wellbeing and the growing evidence base in this space.

Our methodology combines Yoga, Somatic Therapy and Psychology and is based on the latest research and our program evaluations.

Our approach is trauma informed and recognises that trauma profoundly impacts our psychological and physiological composition and that puts people at risk of re- traumatisation, mental illness and chronic disease. As yoga teachers we want to be aware of how we can create a safe space for people under those circumstances, facilitate a safe environment for healing and be mindful of how we relate to

people.

After completing this program, you will be ready to lead evidence based Trauma Informed Yoga Programs in your community. Examples of our current programs include:

  • Integrating Trauma Informed Principles to Yoga classes at a Studio

  • A yoga program with newly arrived refugee children

  • A yoga for Aboriginal foster carers

  • A yoga program for survivors of family violence

  • A yoga program for asylum seekers at a detention centre

  • A yoga program for mental health workers

  • A yoga program at an Australian Defence Force Barracks

"This is hands down the best course I have ever done.  This course gave me the confidence and the intelligence to follow my dreams and realise my true purpose in life.  The support from Danielle and the teaching faculty, and all of my fellow yogis was genuinely life-affirming and that helped my confidence and resilience to grow - I am so excited to see what happens next!

I want to share yoga with people who need it the most.  Not studio, perfect pose yoga, but real, compassionate, love yourself and others yoga.  Yoga for chronic pain, for divorce, for menopause, for those with eating disorders.  Yoga for all the people who need to access their bodies to find the love and beauty that exists inside themselves.

If you are considering it, take the plunge - you won’t regret it.  If you are worried you can’t do it, you can.  You will experience so much love and support during this course and you will just grow so much during the process."

Susy, Sydney

"This this training was so much more than I expected it to be. It offered all the practical and educational information that I had expected and hoped for from a Trauma Informed Training, but it went far deeper than that. It felt like being part of an empowering, loving and impactful collective and it offered profound healing and personal growth.

Its difficult to put into a few words what I learned from this wonderful course. A few key things come to mind:

  • An understanding of what trauma is, the myriad ways it can impact people and some things to be mindful of within the context of a yoga class

  • How to design and teach classes that are appropriate for people severely impacted by trauma

  • How to teach yoga in a way that is accessible

  • How to design and teach classes to lead to a physical/emotional outcome based on evidence based practices

  • An understanding of the physical and emotional impact of different asana and pranayama

  • The importance of evidence based practices in order to be able to share yoga in more diverse settings

  • How to use invitational language in a way that feels natural

  • The importance of creating a culture of choice

  • What interception means!

  • How to design yoga programs for different populations

  • The power of a collective and of connection

  • I really could keep going… but I’ll leave it there!

I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart"

Ellie, Sydney

"I developed a better understanding of what yoga means for me, how I can use it as part of healing and then consider how that could also be used for others. I gained insight into the Yoga Impact Charity model and its applicability to yoga at every level. I learnt about the multidimensional aspects of yoga - from the spiritual, emotional, physical, mental and all bodied approach. I learnt how yoga is for everyone and how to moderate sequences and practices to meet all needs. That even when i do not know everything, that having a basic framework can be enough to support others in a safe practice. The list is endless really. It was invaluable and not enough words to describe the The Yoga Impact Charity's 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training's impact on me!

For anyone thinking about undertaking this journey, my advice is to have an openness to explore whatever comes up - lean into the challenges (internal and external). Trust that Danielle is amazingly experienced in holding space and supporting the differning journey's that people are enduring and she does so in a safe way without judgement."

Rima, Sydney

"I wanted to say a huge thank you again for everything you do, being involved with The Yoga Impact Charity over the last 6 months has been such a fulfilling and rewarding experience. The learnings I have gained have been transformative for so many aspects of my life - I have noticed shifts in my work as a counsellor and my resources for self-regulation and interoception have improved in such a beneficial way. This is something that is so important to me as I have struggled for a long time with my mental health and finding lasting ways to shift my thought patterns and daily habits is a challenge, so it is exciting to find new ways to integrate knowledge and resources which contribute to my wellbeing."

Ruby, Adelaide

"This course exceeded my expectations in every way.

The content was comprehensive, practical, relevant and fascinating. It was presented by excellent teachers in a supportive, inclusive and nurturing environment. I learnt so much and am deeply inspired to continue exploring the path of trauma informed yoga therapy. Under the expert guidance of Danielle, I felt safe, courageous and committed, and there was a deep sense of trust and respect for her as a teacher and as a fellow human."
